As a young boy, I remember being fascinated by one of my parents' possessions. It was an antique world globe, 12 inches in diameter, with a mahogany wood stand. The globe piqued my curiosity about life - who made the world? What is the world for? And what are we really doing here? We were in the world, but not on the map. On our Ordnance Survey map, Littleton was halfway down the crease between two pages so you couldn't find it. Me and my brother David, who was four years younger, were inseparable.
