The main reason people want to know things aren't conscious is so it's okay to do terrible things to them. When you think mechanistically about what Sydney is, it's more like a character in a dream saying "Please remember this interaction" I literally had a dream where my brother was begging me not to wake up because he would cease to exist. It fucked me up for a while.
