The Allures and Dangers of Being a Privateer

A lot of privateers didn't write their memoirs and the records aren't that good about each individual privateer. I looked very seriously to see if they're any female privateers. And there's one record of maybe one woman being on board a privateering vessel, but the documentation for it is very questionable. Just like pirates, there are few women pirates, but really not many. So most privateers men were men. Most of them were in there probably early to mid 20s, just like most soldiers were and most mariners of the time. The average age in the colonies of this time is about 16.
