The Rhetoric of Punctuation

Rhetorical considerations were central to the development of written punctuation, in defining this notions of sentence length. In his analysis of tropes, melancthon, for instance, separates out metalepsis from metaphor, metonomy, et cetera. By making those distinctions, you you start to notice things, right? But you wouldn't notice normally, which is the goal of rhetorical analysis. And they do for am appreciation of the language as a magnificent instrument.
