The Framers of the Australian Constitution

The framers of the Constitution were very aware of what had been said about the American Constitution. They thought really deeply about the same sorts of questions, a recognition that you need to create institutions that will enable governance to occur efficiently and effectively. But at the same time, design the institutions so that there are checks and balances between them. The federal system is really important in our system because it diversifies power.
