The History of the Victorines

Hugh and Richard of St. Victor were laying particular emphasis on longstanding contemplative themes in the Augustinian, monastic, and playdiness traditions. Their monastic lifestyle echoed the so-called Gregorian Reform, led by Pope Gregory VII at the end of the 11th century. The Victorines may have been great spiritualists, but they also traveled to other monasteries,. taking on positions of leadership and trying to spread the Reform movement.
