Animals in the Aztec Rituals

The aztecs had several varieties of dog, and one of these was apparently used almost exclusively for food. The dogs were small, fat, nearly hairless, and they didn't bark. At some point, dogs were seen as psycho pomps by the aztecs. It was the role of the dog to shepherd the human soul across the ninefold stream to reach the centre of the underworld or mitlan.
