How I Became Involved in the Free Speech Union

Simon Hooper set up the free speech union after his public education job was cancelled. He says he wanted to help people who were going through a difficult time with good advice and psychological support. But there have been some brick-bats thrown at him for trying to protect 'male, pale and stale conservatives'Hooper: I think that's a very short-sighted and wrong-headed view. The history of minority rights movements has been completely reliant on the protection of the First Amendment. Without free speech, we wouldn't have seen the rights of minorities being enfranchised in the way they have over the past 50 years.
