Weeping in the Religious Imagination by Patten and Hawley

There's not just one way of interpreting how weeping factors into religious tradition. In some cultures it is seen as a communal outpouring, less about us and more about the spirits of the dead. The fact that some one would cry in order to be seen crying and heard by other people around them doesn't necessarily mean that the crying is in some way manipulative or false.
