The powell memo was prepared by a lawyer named lewis powell junior, who soon after became a supreme court stice himself. It can be seen really as a call to arms for business executives to enter the political fray in a way that they hadn't done "in many decades" The document initiated a massive new influx of money into politics which didn't just affect conservatives or republicans but really has affected all parties across the spectrum.
