The Different Types of Moral Responsibility
There's moral responsibility because there are all kinds of extenuating circumstances. So both the bear and the human being are responsible in the sense that they both caused the damage, but it's only a human being who can be morally responsible. The kind of bad childhood that really does destroy a person's capacity for decent moral reasoning is an excuse. We want to know what it is about us that makes it the case that we alone as far as we know are sometimes morally responsible for the wrong we do.
