The Dilemma of Rhetoric and Philosophy in the Late 17th Century

Angie: Even plain style rhetoric has the problem that whatever you say will always be understatement. Any form of linguistic approach to God will be anticipated by his ear, him as audience. I think the 17th century comes to terms with the fact that it cannot get away from the located circumstantial aspects of language and that they're all societies barking up the wrong tree frankly.
