Hidden Forces

CHAPTER

The Effect of Hyper Stress on Trust

I think this concept of proximity and that the more vulnerable you feel, the more you focus in on what's close to you is fascinating. Another thing that's also interesting is like the phenomenon of trust, which is it makes sense that in such a triggered state, you narrow the number of people you can trust. And so I think it's why you see authoritarian figures come to the fore when you have groups that are highly vulnerable because they're very willing to follow somebody who professes to have certainty. They don't realize that that authoritarian leader never wants to get them back to the comfort zone. That's the ideal world for a for an authoritarian figure.
