Is it a crime to be a coward? It depends. But if your fiduciary responsibility is to protect the children, that's what you signed up for. You took kind of responsibility by taking this job and knew the risks in advance. If you're a coward, don't take on a job. They require bravery. And if you do, they should be consequences when you fail.
