This chapter explores the concept of ethnoecology and its connection to ethnobotany and native plants. The guest, a member of the Squamish First Nation, discusses her work with First Nations communities in renewing traditional knowledge of plant foods and medicines, as well as the importance of Latin names and the history of silencing indigenous knowledge.

The wonderful botanist Leigh Joseph shares what steered her to this field, how she includes her Squamish First Nation community in her research, and how we relate to plants – both native and invasive.
