Is Hui Wu the Most Grounding Character in the Novel?

The book is organized into kind of five sections, each focusing on on a different character. And perhaps my favorite section of the book is the one that focuses on Hui Wu, who's a disabled veteran. I see Hui Wu as this sort of character that in a lot of ways represents, you know, a modern Chinese identity from the 1920s all the way until the 1970s and 1980s.
