Is There a Digital Equivalency for What We're Seeing With These Examples?
The digital equivalent for what we're seeing with those examples is something called no copyright reserved or CCO. It was just a tool to relinquish all copyright that an owner holds in a work, a digital object, the work itself, and dedicate those rights to the public domain. And so this idea of CCO being able to allow anyone to creatively repurpose, remix, meme, productize, generate intention on top of a work actually is the very thing that makes these objects have value. But anything less restricts the ability for the object to gain an enormous amount of attention over time.
