The Importance of Reconstruction in Britain After the War
Post-war Britain will involve elements of the state taking more action by modern standards. The big increase in state provision for unemployed men comes in as a way to manage the process of men moving from the armed forces back into civilian employment. I would say that the people who win concessions, who make things better for the vast majority of the British population, it's not the dead servicemen. So this isn't something that's won in return for war time sacrifice.
