A zero-day exploit is a method to get in and access a thing that you're not supposed to access. The instant you use it, the people who are responsible for defending whatever it is you're hacking will know what you've done and fix it. It's one of these things where you have to be very careful when using these tactics because inadvertently make the attack surface much harder if you don't actually succeed at your goal.
