The One Certainty of Death
If there's one person in this room who is haunted by one idea that I toss out tonight I think it will be worthwhile. Augustine has a wonderful little passage somewhere where he says I just came from a baptism and I listened to the parents and friends and family talk about the baby. How come nobody ever said I wonder if he'll die? Maybe so maybe not. On that river is everything. Plants, animals, stars, galaxies, civilizations, people, ancestors, everything flotsam and jetsam on that river. And nobody can get off the river. It's called time or life or lifetime.
