The End of the Gysus

The end gysus is related etymologically to gaius, which is literally a piece of wood in the plow. The use of this term to signify the betrothal leads to all sorts of social connotations. A day was named where her father would formally give her away in a wedding ceremony. Wedding rituals were enacted in both the wakeess of the bride and that of the groom. Marriages usually take place at the time of the full moon; most popular month for marrying was Gamelion.
