I think Tocqueville will definitely be remembered much more for his thought than his action in the book. I deal with his memoirs because his life as a statesman is quite interesting seeing this man trying to defend the cause of liberty and human dignity against both the reactionaries and the revolutionaries. And we Americans have been luckier. You know, we've had until quite recently. Now I think we're faced with ideological threats that if I can put it this way, seem terribly un-American. Absolutely, absolutely, and terribly toxic.
