What's Going on at the End of Genesis 4?
Joseph was 30 years old and there are a number of significant figures in the Bible building up to the most significant figure who's about 30 when his ministry begins. In Hebrew, there's a phrase, harbe maud, that is, it's used somewhere else. He says, he stored up grain in great abundance like the sand of the sea until he ceased to measure it for it could not be measured. All this language sounds a lot like Genesis 15. And I think what we are seeing in Joseph is you have a Jew who is exiled in foreign court who through struggle and suffering and rejection by his brothers is exalted to the highest position in the land.
