Robert Jobson says he thought the speech in general was a pretty reasonable one. He thinks there's a lot of reasonable stuff in this speech, although it's still very aspirational. There were lots of ideas about shaking up the curriculum but almost all of their aspirations when you get right down to that involve quite a lot of money. But I do think the skills argument, though, is gaining traction because you have the competing forces - academic snobbery and economic reality.
