The Government Support Scheme Is Not Just Prepay
The profits that energy companies are making are made primarily from their work extracting, drilling and trading rather than commercial sale. There's also a time lag between the purchase of the energy that they sold to us and the price that it sold on that. The stuff that we're buying now was purchased at a more expensive price than the one that's currently on the wholesale market. In light of these vast profits, it feels incredibly bad vibes. It's really awful to be seen to be taking such large sums of strapped households and pocketing, trousering and journalistic phrase all this cash at the same time. How can you justify it?
