Nietzsche believed in the theories of Jean Baptiste Lamarck, this is contrary to his great influence Arthur Schopenhauer. He held to a now kind of obscure theory of evolution that sort of runs parallel with the strain of thinking represented by Darwin. For Nietzsche, this culminates in an understanding of human beings that could justifiably be called eugenics. But it's important to note that belief in eugenics at the time was not really an unusual thing.
