Wen: Instead of answering the complex, difficult question, you answer what you can. You're very likely to tell me your mood right now and think that you have answered the more general question of how happy are you these days? That's another example. What i'm thinking of now is that there is a more general process, and that's the process i described a minute ago. It's to substitute one question for another.
