There is a tendency to make mesopotamia the star of the o the centrepiece of the ancient world. Text books hold mesopotamia up as the standard against which everything else is compared. The dawn of what we call civilization wasn't actly great for everybody involved in that process. Most people who were actually alive in the fourth, third and second millennia b c didn't live in egypt or mesopotamia.
