The Conversion to Christianity in the Viking Age
The Danes ultimately lost their grip in england the local elites eventually engineered a return to the throne of an anglo-saxon ruler. The last attempt to assert a Norse rite to the throne was by harold hardratta with his failed invasion in 1066 where he was defeated and killed at the battle of milvian bridge. What really ended the viking era as we've been describing it was the conversion to christianity this made viking raids disadvantageous and eventually politically impossible. It marked the ultimate integration into the world of trade and diplomacy in christendom.
