What's Going on in the Middle East and North America?
I think both Ireland and Turkey have followed this broad trend of declining religiosity so as far as I understand it church attendance is down in Ireland the Catholic church has largely lost its hold on society. In Turkey there's somewhat similar process going on despite the fact that you know we've got this conservative government having been in power for over two decades. But at the same time these strands of identity still remain really really powerful all we have to do is to look at the ways that nationalist movements still mobilize some of these ideas.
