The Hard Decision to Drop the Bombs
Harry Truman signed off on the decision to bomb Hiroshima in 1945. The aim point of the bombers was a bridge in the middle of the city. It did kill about 10 to 20,000 soldiers but it also killed 50 to 60,000 civilians right away. Henry Stimson kept putting Kyoto at the top of the target list and then he had a heart attack that morning.
