Peter's Story of the Battle of North Africa

Peter was training as a solicitor in the small northern city of Lancaster when World War II began. He joined the army and became a second lieutenant. In November 1942, Peter was sent there by sea from Scotland. If the Germans and Italians could take North Africa, it would give them access to the vital Suez Canal and the oil fields of the Middle East. I think I should have been killed five or six times," he says.
