Tet Offensive in 1968 was a turning point for the U.S., says John Defterios. After three years of American military buildup it seems no part of Vietnam is really secure, he adds. It's only a couple of months since General Westman was saying that the Viet Cong dead not attack out of their sanctuaries. The enemy very deceitfully has taken advantage of the Tet troops to create maximum consternation within the South Vietnam particularly in the populated areas. That's what I really saw for the first time the massive destruction that was going on throughout Vietnam. A deeper cynicism will now prevail.
