The Problem With the Republican Leadership Model in the House

McCarthy needs someone who can manage a lot of different factions and personalities. You also need someone who can raise money and he does well with that. One of the interesting problems that they have in the Republican leadership model is that each of the leaders are pretty well liked, but none of them are particularly conservative. It's one of the strategic errors McCarthy might have made was not having a true winger in leadership to help keep that conference from Washington.
