The Pandemic of Jesse's Cancer
Jesse is diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that has spread in her body. Doctors offer one more round of what Jose calls sympathy chemo because it's clear by now that nothing will fix this. Jesse agrees, and she holds his hand the whole drive over to get treatment. But within weeks, Jesse is extremely weak; when she goes in for more scans, the tumors have already grown back.
