The Potato Head Model of the Brain
In his book Live Wired, David Frum proposes what he calls the potato head model of the brain. You just plug in whatever limbs you want and the brain will figure out how to drive them,. It doesn't matter if this is fingers or flappers or fins. Some genes in your genome act like movie directors; they carefully control which thing happens when and where.
