The Philosophical Gourmet Report
In 2009, we drew a somewhat arbitrary line. We decided to focus on philosophers where members of departments ranked in what's called the Philosophical Gourmet Report. In 2020, instead, we broadened our target to faculty members in departments around the world where there are at least four people publishing in English. That group of philosophers, as you describe, can have a lot of disagreements amongst themselves.
