Koopa's Fano Rests at the Head of the Fish
When they say Koopa's fano rested at the head of the fish, they mean the North Island in Wellington Harbour. Eventually we get to the final battle in the Mulbra sounds and to fetch his eyes and turn into islands, the brothers. This is a theme we see across moldy mythology, objects or even people turning into features of the landscape. When Koopa returns, he discovers two of his mokkapuna have slashed their breasts in mourning, thinking him dead. So it stands to reason Koopa is likely fairly old in this story.
