Getting Into a Network Effect Business Model

Not every business needs to be setting up a global model like Uber to hit critical mass. This is why when you get into a platform early, you get special benefits and incentives. The interaction within the group is where a lot of the value comes from. For example, my subscription to a magazine doesn't have the network effect because I don't read that with others. As your platform grows, it can become too big for its britches and difficult to keep doing the policing you once did.
