CHAPTER

Is It a Supervised Fine Tuning or Reinforcement Learning Problem?

I think what's going to emerge probably given the pace of research over the next half a year is just more blation showing the impact of the quality of annotations versus the actual optimization procedure. The reinforcement learning part I don't see as intrinsic to the gains that be made but what has clearly produced a lot of value is just having these really comprehensive annotations and an investment in just the type of interactions that we would consider very high caliber dialogue. And so I think that paired with the optimization objective being RL for me my grumpy take is it matters less.
