i don't know if anybody comes to mind, even hawkins. But roger penrose is probably the most famous scientist in recent history. He gets quoted a lot by religious people who might be uncomfortable with a g i. It took me a time to become convinced that what he was saying really was a weak argument. Computers can't just bring something outside the system to understand it better than us.
