32 When Christ and his Saints Slept

The History of England

00:00

Sherwood by David Morrissey

Stephen's accession relied on the support of the church, and although he'd made general promises, they needed something a little bit more solid. So at Oxford in 1136, Stephen issued his second Charter of Liberties. There was no anchiving party inside at this point, but Stephen had to look to sign up the big names. These included families that Henry I had raised up, the Beaumonts in particular. The acting from the likes of David Morrissey and Leslie Manville was brilliant. Sherwood has 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
