Introduction
The holiday was first established as Washington's birthday in 1879 to honor President George Washington. It was commemorated on February 22nd until 1971, when it was moved away from Washington's actual birth date in order to give federal workers an extra three-day weekend. After the Uniform Monday Holiday Act went into effect in 1971, the day began to be widely referred to as President's Day. But according to Section 6103A of Title V of the United States Code, which classifies federal holidays, it's stillGeorge Washington's birthday. Since the latest third Monday in February, you can call it February 21st. So it'll never, ever actually happen on his birthday again.
