In 1980 you went off to the University of California Santa Cruz, still weighing out which of your two great loves to major in mathematics or music. When you came home for the summer after your first year there I gather all your plans were quite suddenly stopped in their tracks. Yeah, so I had a real fun year at UC Santa Cruz, I really liked it and that was also a period that I came out as being gay.
