I always do this in stats. I keep things relative to the way you aim. If you do miss a fairway, I note it down. There are problems with fairways in regulation. You can also cheat it just by hitting an eye and off the tee every time when you pump up your fairways in Regulation but you're obviously losing strokes gained. Putts per round is almost or if not more equally misleading as fairways hit.
