What Is a Formal Model?

A model is a stylized representation of the world around us that is expressed in mathematical terms. The typical such model is deductive in nature and we see what follows from those assumptions. In my textbook, models tend to be game theoretic or they're almost exclusively game theory models. We can think of game theory as a language that we use to describe strategic environments.
