If you look at the history of public education in the US, what you see is a miniature version of the history of the country's conflicts writ large. The Pledge of Allegiance didn't have under God in it until 1954. It wasn't... What was it before? It just didn't haveUnder God. And we see other weird things like political line drawing, gerrymandering and all of that stuff. That is a product of things like the Civil War, you know, the civil rights movements, ideological and political conflicts of various stripes,. You know, separation of church and state, all of these kinds of things.
