Hamilton and Jefferson in the Electoral College
During the contested election of 1800 Hamilton calls Jefferson quote an intellectual voluptuary. I think that he was actually condemning Jefferson for what is actually one of Jefferson's greatest strengths which is the notion of being a polymath. The listeners will recall the election of 1800 was thrown into the House of Representatives. Adams the theoretical nominee of Hamlet of party was a non-factor. He picked Aaron Burr as his vice presidential nominee and they tied in the Electoral College, 73 votes a piece before the 12th amendment fixed the problem.
