Evangelicals do it also to find organizations that will include as many people as possible under that tent. It's a big tent way of doing things to have the lowest common denominator. And this is perpetuated by the mainstream media or journalism, as it were. Imagine if people writing about religion in the United States had to actually identify people not by liberal, mainline, or evangelical.
