Putin makes a variety of parallels show his thinking of himself in terms of this pantheon. He would like to be as successful as Ivan the Great, who was the main figure associated with the gathering of the Russian lands into Moscow's hands. The trouble is that actually he is probably as thoughtful as Constantine Cherignenko and militarily incompetent as Zarpaul I.
